Mayor of Plano Harry LaRosiliere attended a special celebration on Sept. 28 to collect more than 3,900 jars of peanut butter donated by the John Paul II High School community and area Plano schools.

Mayor LaRosiliere challenged JPIIHS to exceed the 1,500 jars the school collected last year for the Food 4 Kids Plano program, and to get other are schools, including Prince of Peace and St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic schools, involved.

“JPIIHS is leading by example, and setting the bar for everyone else,” the mayor said.

Mayor LaRosiliere is committed to addressing the issue of food insecurity of chronically hungry early childhood and elementary school children in Plano by partnering with North Texas Food Bank to provide them with a backpack filled with nutritious, kid-friendly, shelf stable food, every Friday during the school year. Each backpack contains at least 60 percent of a child’s nutritional needs for the weekend.

“It’s a great opportunity for our students to live our motto, Seek to Serve,” said Christian Service Coordinator Nicki Gonzalez. “The Mayor challenges us every year because he knows we will go above and beyond.”
